Hey MSR fans, today we are meeting Tisch. a girl from Los Angeles who stumbled upon the amazing profession of makeup artistry in 2008.  Before that however, I had the good luck of becoming friends with her and she did us the favor of posing for a photo shoot with our 1971 Mustang (check out the pictures from the shoot below!)

Not only does this girl know sick rides, but she also knows her makeup because she started creating eyeshadows on a whim and just went with it. She wanted to make colors that you couldn’t really find in stores. More vibrant! Waterproof! Long-lasting! Eyeshadows that won’t budge if you’re out in the sun all day (or spending all day on a photo shoot with an awesome car or two!)

As many of you know, My Sick Ride is not just about America muscle cars or Japanese cars or European cars – but about all cars and what they mean to their owners. I’ve owned all three but I have always had a soft spot for Maseratis since visiting Modena, Italy and since first driving my father’s 1968, 4.7 liter Mexico.

Recently I met with Douglas Magnon, President of the Riverside International Automotive Museum – and a passionate fan of Maseratis. His museum has one of the most complete collections of production Maseratis in North America, including the rare Quattroporte prototype of Juan Carlos, the King of Spain.

Douglas was kind enough to take me on a tour of the museum and introduce me to the rich racing heritage that is part of Riverside’s legacy. I hope you enjoy reading about the museum below and viewing the pictures I took while on tour there.

RIVERSIDE INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY – Once California’s premiere motor sports venue.

From 1957 to 1986 RIR was host to some of the most notable races and racers in the world. Not just records were set or broken there, but careers, reputations and fortunes as well.

ONTARIO MOTOR SPEEDWAY – Proved “the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.”

From 1970 to 1981 OMS was the fastest oval in the world. But 25 millions dollars worth of high-speed banking and top-notch facilities couldn’t save OMS from a fickle public and overly-optimistic management.

RIAM COLLECTION – Is comprised of some of the most exclusive sport, exotic and race cars.

Maserati, Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche each represents the pinnacle of it’s period, and all are on view at RIAM. See also the collection’s Indy racers: Penskes and Gurney Eagle. RIAM also has one of the most complete collections of production Maseratis in North America, including the rare Quattroporte prototype of Juan Carlos, the King of Spain.

Of all the new cars that sell for under $100,000 today, these 10 are most likely to become highly collectible in the future, according to the expects at Hagerty Insurance, a collector car insurance company.

Most of the cars on this list are high-performance special editions. While relatively affordable, these cars are still rare and exciting.

Take the Camaro ZL1 for example. For some performance coupe buyers, only the most powerful version will do. For them, General Motors is providing the ZL1 with its 580-horsepower V-8.

The Volkswagen Type 1, widely known as the Volkswagen Beetle or Volkswagen Bug, is car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003. With over 21 million manufactured in an air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured automobile of a single design platform anywhere in the world.

That is the the official historical version, the contemporary fact is that the VW Bug has become a social phenomenon and spawned devoted fans and car clubs all over the word! I was lucky enough to meet up with a new friend that is part of a local club here in the Los Angeles area: Drivers Wanted – VW.

MSR: So Tina how did you become aware of and interested in car rallies?

TINA: I have several ideas as to how I became interested in them, but I know that there is not just one thing that drew me in. Growing up, my dad was always purchasing fast cars and would work on them all day to make them even faster. His obsession always fascinated me and although I had no interest back then, I was more than curious as to why he loved speed so much. A part of me feels that falling in love with cars was my subconscious’ way of trying to get closer and spend more time with my Dad.

MSR: So was a fast car number one on your list when you started driving?

TINA: When I was finally of age to get a car, I kept telling myself that I wanted to get the best gas mileage I could so that I could save money for other things. Although my first car had a four-cylinder engine and got a whopping 35mpg, I wasn’t satisfied.

MSR: So did you move up to a better, faster car or opt for modifications on that first car?

TINA: Through my research, I joined different forums and learned about certain things that I could do to my car that would not only help me get better gas mileage, but would also make my car faster. Problem was, I soon became more in love with speed and less interested in miles per gallon.

MSR: Haha that has happened to all of us here at My Sick Ride! We totally get it!

TINA: As the passion of car building started planting its roots and began to take over, I met some amazing people along the way who introduced me to car rallies, car races, autocross and track days. Although I didn’t have as much experience as the other drivers, I took a dare and tried it, just once. I remember nervously clutching my wheel at the start line of my first rally, but as soon as we took off all those feelings were left in the dust. The rush and the adrenaline have this way of controlling your body and the feeling is unmatched. I wanted more! It’s now more of an obsession than a hobby as the speed and challenges are incredibly addicting.

MSR: We would be worried for you if we didn’t all consider obsessions with speed and cars a way of life as well! So this is just the beginning for you? It sounds like you are going to keep going on this crazy, fun ride and make quite the name for yourself in the process.

TINA: Well – Here I am, three car builds and several car rallies later. I am so in love with the adventure, the speed and the cars, I have no idea when or if it will ever end. I look back at the days as a little girl when I used to watch my dad build cars and know I am experiencing the passion I saw in his eyes that I once envied so much.

Jade Motorsports. Can’t believe it all started by chit chatting w friends at a mall food court over a decade ago. It’s been an unbelievable ride so far and no sign of slowing down.

I don’t know what I am most proud of. From our Jade logos and t-shirts being sold to the general public at area malls, to enough magazine/newspaper Jade features to create a book about Jade, to working with famous directors and actors in blockbuster movies (2Fast 2Furious and Fast Five), to being featured on numerous tv shows and dvd’s, to the amount of awards and titles we’ve won as a crew.

Of course on top of that there is also having our cars shipped overseas and displayed – to the Japanese kids reading about US in THEIR magazines in Japan!  AND having Jade cars being the pace cars at Sebring, partnering w multi million dollar companies having us represent their brands and products, having Universal Studios showcase our cars at their theme parks, Jade members branching out and actually being employed and  associated by the same companies and magazines we used to drool over!

Add to that having a company like Toyota/Scion give us a car and funds to mod out “Jade Style” for SEMA, having our cars licensed for a XBOX/PS3 video game (Juiced 2) - and most importantly, having the majority of the original Jade Crew still hanging together after over 14 plus years.

It truly is amazing what we’ve accomplished as a Crew while still working and elevating our own lives as well. I’m sure I’m leaving a ton of other highlights out but you get the damn point by now. Nobody would ever believe us if we told them that a bunch of snot nosed car freak kids hanging out in the parking lots and drag strips of Orlando, FL would amount to what we’ve become – jadecrew.com
