Battle of the Electric Super Cars?
Some people are calling the Renovo Daytona “Americas first electric super car”. This no doubt because it looks almost identical to one of America’s finest sports cars ever produced, the Shelby Daytona, and carries a price tag of more than $500,000. In most cases this means a car such as this can be called a super car. We slightly disagree however. One of the finest electric super cars America has to offer is the Tesla Model S.
Even though the Renovo carries 500 horses and almost 1000 ft. lbs of torque and reaches 60 in an admittedly fast 3.4 seconds – it is still only marginally quicker than the Model S. The Renovo tops out at 120mph and while we are not saying these are bad numbers, we are saying they’re no better than the Tesla Model S which tops out at 130.
One of the other oddities lies with the Tesla Model S. It weighs 4,600 lbs, whereas the Renovo weighs in at a comparatively small 3,200 lbs. The Tesla Performance is also limited to 416hp and 440 ft. lbs of torque, but it still reaches 60 in 3.7 seconds. And again, let’s not forget it can reach speeds in excess of 130mph. So how can anyone possibly state that this is supposed to be Americas first electric super car, when Tesla clearly has some advantages?
Of course one real advantage with the Daytona is that you look like a major badass whenever you roll in our out because that car has some serious attitude! So who do we think is really America’s first and best electric super car? Who cares! We will take one of each please!!!
